If you're thinking about including Venice on your next European road trip - do it! We pre-booked our parking online at Tronchetto and scanned our QR code on entry. The parking terminal is a short walk from the water taxis, private ferries and ACTV public ferries (vaporettos). https://actv.avmspa.it/en You can easily spend over 100 euros on the first two options. We purchased a 3-day pass on the ACTV for 45 euros each which was ideal for our needs. Line 2 will probably take you to somewhere close to your accommodation. We stayed at the Hotel Biglioni Luna which was close to St Mark's Square https://venice.baglionihotels.com/it/

Using the ferry pass, we visited Murano (famous for glassmaking), Burano (famous for lace and brightly coloured houses and we even went to Lido where we swam at the sandy beach on the Adriatic side of the island. The weather was very hot during our stay and we were surprised that it wasn't more busy. The tourists were mostly Europeans (especially French and German) and there were a lot of Chinese tour groups...but remarkably few American accents on the streets...

We learned a lot about the remarkable Venetian Republic and its Doges and Councils at the Palace, the grim corridors of endless prison cells and Bridge of Sighs on Piazza San Marco. We spent many hours getting lost in the back streets of Venice and ate some delicious meals at some of the many restaurants available.

Having criss-crossed our way around Venice and nearby islands on foot and by boat our three nights were up and we caught the Line 2 ferry back to find MoneyPenny sitting safely where we had left her.

Our next stop is Modena
